YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos, created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005. YouTube is the primary source for all Spongebob and non-Spongebob edits.

The company is based in San Bruno, California, and uses Adobe Flash Video and HTML5 technology to display a wide variety of user-generated video content, including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video blogging and short original videos. Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals, although media corporations including CBS, BBC, Vevo, Hulu and other organizations offer some of their material via the site, as part of the YouTube partnership program.

Unregistered users may watch videos, and registered users may upload an unlimited number of videos. Videos that are considered to contain potentially offensive content are available only to registered users 18 and older. In November 2006, YouTube, LLC was bought by Google Inc. for $1.65 billion, and now operates as a subsidiary of Google.

History with Editing[edit]

Legendary editor, Klusignolo, uploaded the very first SB edit on YouTube, with a censored version of Chocolate With Nuts. He later began uploading edits like Sailor Mouth, The Camping Episode, Squiliam Returns and so on. His videos averaged 800k - one million views in the span. With the popularity of spongebob editing, more now-known editors began making them, after finding a way to do what he does to make them. Among these editors were, Nubforlyfe, MasterPlanktum, Freshmilk980 and ToRxEdiTs.

As the rate of edits and editors grew, Viacom then noticed the rate of their content on YouTube and around 2009, edits were removed by Viacom when YouTube received a notice from them. Because of the removed edits and suspended editors, edit fans sparked a hate-fest with the company and editors wouldn't allow themselves to kneel down to Viacom.

The editing world saw a huge resurgence when famous editors, Roshua666, ny2049 and EditorzRus appeared, with a series of edits. They would also influence many other editors and would also make edits other than Spongebob.

But when Roshua was suspended on July 20th, 2010, a huge hate war ignited between the editing community and Viacom, with YouTube in the midst. This of course was after YouTube won in court against Viacom, who sued them for an estimated $1 billion USD. Since then, edits were removed by the dozens prior to his suspension. And soon enough, EditorzRus was suspended around late-February and early-March, this suspension made the hate-fest worse, due to his popularity.

But ultimately, editors continue to make edits, aside from other things to spare time, yet Viacom has not let up, however, some editors happen to get past them and YouTube's terms of use policy.
